What are limitations on discovery for most civil cases (involving less than $250K)?

Discovery can seem invasive and overwhelming, but there are limits to its length and scope. The whole process is time-limited to when the initial disclosures are due through 180 days after that date. Oral depositions are limited to 20 hours over that period of time, and the court can establish more rules for depositions to ensure that no party has the advantage over the other. Keep in mind the rule of 15: parties can send no more than 15 questions to be answered in written depositions, cannot request more than 15 admissions, nor produce more than 15 items.
